Kanji Vocabulary

This is a cute app that is built for children – but it is great for a quick and fun break to refresh or learn new kanji!

Excellent for those who are just starting their Japanese journey, in the middle and want a refresh or even native speakers who after years of typing and texting have found their kanji skills have dropped off!

Doing a little each day really adds up, so give yourself a challenge to see how many days in a row you can open the app and have a go! (Record your logs in a calendar, it’ll really push you to keep going!)

Remember to add your new words to your Anki Deck! Which is loads easier now because you already have an example sentence!

Handwriting

After years of typing and texting, even native speakers find themselves unable to recall kanji. You use your finger to write in the kanji which helps it stick – muscle memory as well as helping the brain engage more!

Reading

This application teaches the readings of certain kanji as well as the kanji themselves. And it gives you short sentences as the prompt! So you get in context sentences for each word! Two birds with one stone (or 一石二鳥!).

You will need to know hiragana, but there is no better way to practice than just using it! So no worries!

This specific app is great for those who haven’t studied much kanji or keep forgetting how to write them. But for the more advanced learners this company offers 四時熟語 (idioms) and all sorts of wonderful native apps. So even if you are confident in your Kanji – still check it out!
